[SOLVED] xorg-server-1.20.0-2 nvidia-396.24-3 no screens found

Hi,

My system worked perfectly until I did a full system upgrade approximately 15:00 UTC Monday, 21 May 2018

Now, startx fails with "no screens found". I have downgraded to a snapshot from May 1st but obviously this is not a permanent solution.

Could anyone offer any advice? This is the first time an arch upgrade has rendered my system unusable.

log is as follows:

Re: [SOLVED] xorg-server-1.20.0-2 nvidia-396.24-3 no screens found

Xorg tries to load nouveau, nvidia isn't even considered.
So I assume the answer is rather in dmesg (and why the nvidia kernel module isn't loaded do you maybe have a Fermi or older chip?)

Re: [SOLVED] xorg-server-1.20.0-2 nvidia-396.24-3 no screens found

Thanks very much for your help seth. I do in fact have a Fermi card and missed the memo about it moving to a legacy driver. I'll switch to nvidia-390xx. Sorry to have bothered you!
