I have an Ideapad FLEX 4 and I try to connect it to a screen and it does not work. What can I do?

Re: Laptop's HDMI output does not work

Start by reading this: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

You have provided no information that could be used to help you. Start with changing that. What DE? Xorg / Wayland? What configuration, if any? Graphics drivers? What are the _precise_ steps you take to connect? Outputs of `dmesg`, `lspci`, `journalctl`?

Re: Laptop's HDMI output does not work

I3wm with xorg. no special configs. AMD Radeon R7 M460.

I simply connected my laptop to the screen using hdmi and turned it on (the screen and the laptop).

Re: Laptop's HDMI output does not work

Which is why you are expected to post all code and outputs between [code⁣] [/code⁣] tags.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … s_and_code

I think your problem was expecting anything to happen automatically. You need to configure this yourself.
Look at the xrandr and i3 wiki pages.

Edit - Just noticed that this is a dual-GPU laptop. How have you configured your graphics stack?

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

I did no such thing... I am pretty much a noob to Linux (and to Arch)...

Re: Laptop's HDMI output does not work

That HDMI1 disconnected thing is not good.   As Slithery notes, this seems to be a dual GPU machine with which I have zero experience.  I would bet, however, that the HDMI port is dedicated to which ever GPU you are not using.  The Xorg log seems to indicate you are using the Intel GPU.  You might try getting the AMD GPU going.

Could it be a hardware problem?

Re: Laptop's HDMI output does not work

Not a hardware problem, per se.  It might be that there just is no path from the Intel GPU to the HDMI.  One theory being that if you are using an external display, you may not be running on batteries and therefore can use the more powerful GPU.  They may be using the more moderate Intel GPU for the internal display only.  They may also be using the Intel GPU as a frame buffer for the AMD GPU when high performance graphics are needed internally.  So, It just may be that HDMI will only work with the AMD.  Maybe.

Is there any way to confirm it?
