The newest redshift seems to keep dimming itself after a few minutes when it no longer needs to dim past the initial stage. And this is during the day, not at night. Thankfully under Awesome, I can kill the redshift back to normal, but it just comes back minutes later completely dimmed. Going back to previous redshift version.

I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

I can confirm with plasma5-applets-redshift-control. I used to use mouse wheel to adjust it, now it only works one way, which makes screen too dim. Downgrading to 1.11-5 fixes any issues.

Update to redshift, but still acting the same...maybe time to contact upstream.

This problem finally fixed with newest redshift 1.12-5 in repos.
Apparently it has to do with the -b parameter.
Acts differently, in rc.lua under awesome, as opposed to just opening up a terminal and running redshift.
Never mind, 1.11-5 is still the only one that works correctly.
