Xorg and nvidia drivers

Hi,

I've some problems getting the nvidia graphic drivers to work on my system. I installed the drivers using pacman (pacman -S nvidia) and edited my xorg.conf as explained in the wiki. But when I start X the screen just becomes black and my monitor (not xorg!) says "No signal". The drivers nv and vesa work perfectly, only nvidia does not.

My xorg.conf:

Re: Xorg and nvidia drivers

i assume you are using the new Xorg 7*1

you need to run nvidia-xconf ... it will generate what seems to be an identical xorg-config file, to /etc/X11/XF86Config (i think... it's definately not xorg.conf) ... the XServer should automatically use it... instead of xorg.conf, or you can just cp it to xorg.conf

Re: Xorg and nvidia drivers

I too had problems getting Xorg working with the "pacman Nvidia" package, so what I did was to download the latest drivers from nvidia's website instead (nvidia.com), 'pacman -S kernel-headers' and then run the driver-installer-script and everything worked fine wink

Re: Xorg and nvidia drivers

When I set up my xorg.conf (it's still a work-in-progress) I ran three different config scripts (are they even scripts? I don't know, doesn't matter) and decided to merge the data, then clean it up from there by looking up a lot of info and example configs online (there are probably a few things I should remove, but they work fine for now). The only thing I have left to do is read through the nVidia driver documentation and add any addition options from there. So I recommend you take the time and look all this stuff up...you might find the answer. However, below is my xorg.conf which I hope will help.

Re: Xorg and nvidia drivers

I don't think there is anything wrong with my config because it works fine with nv and vesa. I've also generated several configs with hwd, nvidia-xconfig and X -configure. I will try it with another monitor later, but I doubt that's the problem.

Edit: I just connected my old LG tft and now it works. What's wrong with my BenQ? Is it just a settings error or a serious problem? Any tips?

Re: Xorg and nvidia drivers

lol, I feel like an idiot know. I have two monitors connected to my gfx card because on Windows I sometimes use both. On Linux with the nvidia driver X output everything on the second monitor which was powered off all the time. Finally it works and I want to thank all the people who tried to help me. smile
