[SOLVED] X restarts when trying to enable displays via laptop dock

Hi,

First off, I'm not sure if this should be in the laptop part, but I figured it's more of a display error than laptop error. If you think otherwise, please move it or let me know.

I'm using a displaylink dock, with a display connected via displayport. It's showing up as DVI-I-1-1 in xrandr (yes, DVI, that's "normal" for displayport on this dock according to a collegue). I can see the resoutions and refresh rates it supports using xrandr, and they seem reasonable. But as soon as I try to activate it, either by extending the display or setting it as the only active one, X restarts and I'm back at the login screen.

I've updated all packages, reinstalled displaylink (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/displaylink/) and evdi (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/evdi-git/). This has been working before, a couple of weeks ago, I'm not sure what changed other than updated packages

Full /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old uploaded here, the last and (probably) most interesting log rows are:

[ 2117.484] (II) modeset(0): Allocate new frame buffer 2560x1440 stride
[ 2117.536] randr: falling back to unsynchronized pixmap sharing
[ 2117.536] (II) modeset(G0): Allocate new frame buffer 2560x1440 stride
[ 2117.550] (EE) modeset(G0): failed to set mode: No such file or directory

Anyone has any idea what's happening?

Thanks,
/ Zmegolaz

Re: [SOLVED] X restarts when trying to enable displays via laptop dock

Xorg got updated to a new major version (1.20) and  the displaylink packages do not yet have proper support. Downgrade xorg to 1.19.6+13+gd0d1a694f-2 for the time being if you require this to be functional.
