Narrate missing in Firefox with speech-dispatcher and espeak installed

Continuing from here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1789754

I can use TTS on my phone but not on ArchLinux/Manjaro. I installed speech-dispatcher and espeak as suggested but there is no wave icon:

narrate_missing (image tags don't work: https://imgur.com/gallery/HBrKbnM)

I also tried to install mbrola, but it failed downloading the link: https://imgur.com/a/JdY8pcb.

$ espeak "This is a test"

connect(2) call to /dev/shm/jack-1000/default/jack_0 failed (err=No such file or directory)

Also, I installed marytts and typetalk, then when I open the GUI and type test and play, there is no sound. I can play audio. Oh no, I figured out how to get TTS to work in Type Talk. However, I want to use TTS in Firefox. As shown above, the builtin narrate feature doesn't work, and I can't get any TTS add-ons to work either. I'll try restarting. Didn't work, same thing.

Unless I can figure this out I may need to try using a different OS like going back to Ubuntu or Windows, or using my phone. It's handy for, say, reading aloud an article while running on the spot inside (you can't read well while runnning on the spot) when it's raining outside.

Re: Narrate missing in Firefox with speech-dispatcher and espeak installed

I get similar messages from espeak, but it does give sounds.
post output of pacman -Qs pulse .

but not on ArchLinux/Manjaro

are you running Arch Linux or Manjaro ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Manjaro is not supported here and neither is necrobumping 3 year old threads.
