HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

Hello Community,

During the last hours I have been trying to configure my arch box to work with my monitor so I could have an extra screen for my laptop.

I am using an HDMI converter to VGA but I cannot manage to make my HDMI1 to be "connected".

Please, find below some info that could be relevant for people who are skilled on the topic:

Re: HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

Have you tried the connector in any other OS to be sure about it's general functionality?

Re: HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

Yes, I have tried in a Xubuntu box and it does detect it (e.g. displays HDMI1 connected at xrandr command).
Plus, using a vga to vga cable it works => monitor works.
I do not know much about graphics drivers... any suggestion in that direction?

Re: HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

please post your xorg log
In general there's xf86-video-intel and the modesetting driver for the X11 layer, but the issue might lie with the kernel module (i915), so also try the LTS kernel behavior.

Re: HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

So first test: remove xf86-video-intel (it has trouble w/ the 1.20 server anyway)

Re: HDMI converter to VGA not working on my Arch distro

Thought as much; try the LTS kernel and watch dmesg for messages from i915
Also the attachment order could matter - ensure the powered monitor is plugged into the adapter before plugging the adapter into HDMI. Ensure to have tried booting w/ the adapter + monitor plugged. (The HDMI handshake is rather fragile)
