I use icon fonts like FontAwesome, not for creating webpages, but only for local documents and system customization. Now if I want to type a specific icon, I have to look at their online cheatsheet or use the program fontforge to look up the unicode value. But both ways are extremely slow and painful. Is there a simple method to view and query icon fonts?
Siji (a bitmap icon font) provides a simple view script for local use, which is very nice. Are there any ttf icon fonts which are more sane than FontAwesome?

If the font is using the Private_Use_Areas for the glyph you want then it is particular to that font.
