GDM fails to start the desktop on each boot (GNOME | GDM | Wayland)

Hi,

I have a small problem, it's been like two month, when the computer boots (or reboots), gdm starts, the computer shows a login screen (and shows the autologin progress). Then instead of being siwtched to the desktop, then screen statys on the boot text non interractive "console", to start the display I need to swithc to another vertual terminal

Jun 24 13:47:23 hq systemd[1]: Stopped GNOME Display Manager.

I've looked a bit around the forum to see if someone else had the same problem and had it fixed, but I wasn't lucky or perseverant engough, or I'm missing something.

I known I'm runnning wayland (XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland). I deactivated all gnome extensions. But from the log the problem seems to be comming from dbus. I don't quite get what is wrong here.

By thge way the closest thread I've found are :

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=236420
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=236559
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=198298

Does that ring any bells here. Thanks in advance for the help smile

I have the same issue, not sure what is going on there.

Re: GDM fails to start the desktop on each boot (GNOME | GDM | Wayland)

Accountservice and pam failures might be an indication of https://www.archlinux.org/news/glibc-22 … ervention/ have you ensured that all relevant directives (replace all notions of pam_unix2.so or pam_unix_* with pam_unix.so) have been updated?

Also since this is half a bump @Ba7a7chy are you sure it's the same issue? Do you get the same messages, if not there's currently another issue going around which might be a more likely culprit in your case: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 9#p1796289
