Buttom of the browser (firefox) is cut-off and/or becomes transparent.

Hi.

I am on arch with i3wm and polybar (at the top) and I have this weird problem with firefox.
The buttom of the browser is cut-off, and I can see what was on the last workspace I have visited. Making the window float and unfloat fixes the issue. But it can come back after a reboot.

As you can see from the link above, there is a bit of the terminal visible at the buttom, that was on another workspace.

Anyone know what the problem is? It's just a bit annoying.

That looks like you've a floating browser over a full page terminal.  Does changing to stacked do anything?  Does changing to full screen change anything?  Are you using a compositor?

That looks like you've a floating browser over a full page terminal.  Does changing to stacked do anything?  Does changing to full screen change anything?  Are you using a compositor?

Hi.

Sadly it is not a floating browser over a terminal. Like I said in the my original post it is just a normal browser window on one workspace, and the termianl was on another. In that empty cut-off space I can see whats on the last workspace I have visited. Lets say firefox is on workspace 1 and terminal on workspace 2, I switch from 1 to 2 and back to 1, now I can see whats on workspace 2.
I am using compton as compositor.

Edit:
Just taken a new screenshot after a reboot. You can see the movie palying thats on workspace 10. Making the browser float and unfloat fixes it until the next reboot.

Looks like running without compton fixes it. Rebooted twice now and I can't see the issue. Have you got any idea what part of the compton config would be responsible for that? I guess I have some reading to do tonight. I run compton to get rid of the tearing but tbh I don't see any atm so I might just stop using it.

Just out of curiosity, why are you using a compositor with a tiling window manager?  Note that there are some perfectly legitimate reasons for doing so, just want to understand your needs.

Just out of curiosity, why are you using a compositor with a tiling window manager?  Note that there are some perfectly legitimate reasons for doing so, just want to understand your needs.

The main reason I used it last time (before the reinstall few days ago) was to fix the tearing I had. Trying to fix it using xorg/intel settings didn't seem to work, but installing compton fixed it so I just automatically tried to do the same thing now. I don't care much about the eye candy part of compositors tho I did try some fade effects. But as I am writing this I am also browsing the wiki and I can see that some of the issues I've had with video freezes are known to be caused by compton. I should really read more. Maybe I don't really need one, especially since the tearing is not an issue anymore.

Are there any more reasons I should/not use a compositor? What do you think about it?

That is the big one And, the only one against which I cannot argue.

What video chipset are you using?  I've never had any issue with compton on Intel, but I have not done so for a while.  I am currently using compton on this VM (Arch Linux guest on Windows 10 Host) with no issues.

I'm on Lenovo E480, i5-8250U. Previous laptop was an MSI with intel and nvidia bits in it. Not the nicest combo to play with. This is much simpler and easier to get working. Tho I can see some tearing when scrolling in firefox. Time to read the wiki a bit more, and maybe try and sort that compton issue.

Forgot to add the gpu in the lenovo is i620 UHD.
