Post a complete untruncated journalctl -b after reproducing the issue. If it works on a manjaro disk, which kernel, fprintd/libfprint version is in use there? Have you tried with an older, resp. the linux-lts kernel and an older libfprint for that matter?

Downgrading packages isn't a long term solution, now that we know something is amiss in the current libfprint version, you might want to try and get a better backtrace and report a bug to the libfprint project.
Edit: There already seems to be a report, you might want to follow the development there: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprin … /issues/77
