I'm trying to use Teensy board so that the board is connected to 12 V power source. I would like to be able to program the board without disconnecting it from the 12 V source. Because the USB cable acts as an extra power source to the board and because exceeding 12 V would overload the board, I cut the envelope of the USB cable open and cut the USB power chord inside. Now when I'm trying to program the board using the power-disabled USB cable, the operating system does not seem to detect the connected board anymore. The board is visible in dmesg when a non-tampered, ordinary USB cable is used. What can I do to make the system detect the board that is powered up but not with a USB? Is there a way to use an ordinary USB cable and to make absolutely sure that the system does not accidentally put any power in it?
