amd64 or i686 version?

HI! I am new to Arch Linux, but have been using Linux in general for about 6 months now. I have tried Fedora Core, Gentoo, and Ubuntu, but I have always liked Gentoo the best.

My first question, is how does Arch Linux compare to Gentoo? I read some info about it on the Arch wiki, but if someone could explain the differences a little more in depth then that would be nice.

I have an AMD X2 +3800 CPU, and I know that 64-bit support is still lacking in some areas. I have usually used the 64-bit version of different distro's. Using a workaround for some apps like Flash, or mplayer was usually required. My question is, how good is the 64-bit support in Arch? It seems like Arch64 is still a new project, so I'm not sure if I should use it, or the 32-bit i686 version.

I have one last question. Whether I choose to use the i686 or amd64 version, is there SMP support in the kernels. I would like to get full usage of both my processor cores.

Thanks,
