Can't boot LiveUSB after CPU upgrade

I've just updated my CPU to Amd FX4170 from an older Athlon II x3. It involved upgrading the BIOS as well on the M4A89GTD motherboard.

My Arch install won't boot at all, it stops at initramfs. Windows boots just fine.

So I thought that I'll chroot and rebuild the kernel. USB menu pops up, I select run and it hangs right after EDD probing... OK.

Odd behaviour here is that I can see the mouse light, the keyboard light and the USB stick's LEDs are all on. When I press any key on the keyboard all LEDs die : the stick, the mouse and the keyboard.

Any indication what could be wrong here?
