nm-applet in xfce system tray

Hello.
I am trying to get NetworkManager's applet integrated into my xfce4 system tray. I've installed nm-applet and NetworkManager and enabled the latter. NetworkManager on it's own works, I can connect using the cli/curses front end. However, the applet does not want to appear in my status bar/system tray. Do you have an idea why?

Did you put the Notification Area Plugin on your panel and enabled the autostart of nm-applet in the XFCE settings?
