PulseAudio JACK sink output / volume issues

I am trying to have a PulseAudio JACK sink setup on GNOME so that I can run multimedia apps alongside audio apps that need JACK, along with being able to switch between headphones and speakers without too much hassle.

I followed the wiki page on how to set up PulseAudio with JACK using the KXStudio method.

My problem is that I can't get any output except on headphones, using JACK configuration in Cadence to select analog output, and even then the output is very quiet, even at maximum volume. I have made sure that the volume settings for ALSA and PulseAudio are not muted or turned down.

Re: PulseAudio JACK sink output / volume issues

If the issue is limited to pulseaudio applications, have you checked that the pulseaudio jack sink audio is routed to the correct jack system playback port? It should be the same port, where working jack applications' outputs are routed..

If everything that outputs to jack is effected, check that your jack output device configuration is correct, or again routing to different playback ports if applicable.

If you need assitance with either, post your current jack configuration, the output of 'aplay -Ll', and what audio interface/sound card you're using.

I can get output from my headphones from the front jack on my computer. I cannot get sound from my speakers, which are plugged into my monitor, and with PulseAudio I was previously able to get sound through the DisplayPort connection.

Please use [ code ], not [ quote ] tags when pasting code.

You didn't really explain the situation any further. Do you have the issue with every application that outputs to pulseaudio even when jack server is not running, only pulseaudio applications that output to jack sink, or everything that outputs to jack server?

Re: PulseAudio JACK sink output / volume issues

Before I had been running all of my applications with PulseAudio, and everything worked. It is when I set up the PulseAudio JACK sink that everything stopped working. In Cadence JACK configuration there are 4 different HDMI hardware outputs, and I have tried each one manually, each time restarting JACK, and the PulseAudio and ALSA MIDI bridges, and each time when I play music in VLC I cannot hear anything, despite having the JACK sink selected as the output in VLC.

Re: PulseAudio JACK sink output / volume issues

You still didn't answer my questions. I'm gonna rephrase in case my wording was confusing.

Do you have issues with pulseaudio when jack is not running, and you don't output to pulseaudio's JACK sink, but your regular analog/digital/HDMI output?

Do you have issues with applications that output to JACK directly?

No.

I have attempted to run VLC, Qtractor, and Ardour with JACK as output, and I get no sound output.

Re: PulseAudio JACK sink output / volume issues

In that case either your JACK output configuration is wrong, or everything is routed to wrong output port.
Again, post your configuration if you need help with it..
