urxvt font problems

I'm tryng to use Misc ohsnapu fonts in urxvt , while in termite ternal; the fonts works correctly , in urxvt this font seems that cannot be used for fonts larger than 14 very uncomfortable ... there is such way in order to use this fonts like in my termite terminal in which i use with size 18 !!

the line that i run for the preview of this font is :

urxvt -fn "xft:Misc Ohsnapu:style:Regular:size=16"

and the terminal open with very small fonts ... I think less than 10
what I can try ?

in my Xresource I have this line now :

URxvt*font:     xft:Terminus (TTF):Regular:pixelsize=18

and works for Terminus .. but not for Misc Ohsnapu

From the README.ohnsnap

Ohsnap is a monospaced bitmap font based on Artwiz Snap (http://artwizaleczapka.sourceforge.net/).

There are ISO8859-1 versions, versions with status icons, consolefonts and I started working on ISO10646-1 versions. All have bold too.
There are four sizes now: 6x11, 7x12, 6x13 and 7x14.

You can likely confirm the above with `fc-match`. What do the following return:

fc-match "Misc Ohsnapu:style:Regular:size=16"
fc-match "Misc Ohsnapu:style:Regular:size=14"

I'd check myself, but I cannot find any package for ohsnapu.

Thanks - I thought it might be a variant off that package, not a variant provided within that package. Font config does seem to favor matching the face name over the size, so in sizes larger than 14, it still just keeps giving ohsnapu size 14:

Drudox, would this match your observations? You say when you use a size larger than 14 urxvt uses a "very small font" - that had me suspecting a totally different fallback font was used. Is the "very small font" the same as the size 14 font?

there is some font very similar to this usable ? i've tried also the fonts of http://artwizaleczapka.sourceforge.net/ but same problem ... I don't know why in termite ohsnapu works ...

Yet you are saying that when you specify size=18 it is smaller than when you specify size=14? Can you link to a screenshot comparing the two? But in any case, you will not be able to use anything larger than size=14.

Termite is quite a bit more complex - I'd not be surprised if it did it's own internal scaling of the font, so it can use it at any size.

For an alternative, there does seem to be a ttf version of ohsnap:

I would also bet that your resolution is wrong. Check it here: http://dpi.lv/ and compare with `xdpyinfo | grep resolution`

but it is a completely different font !! it looks like a "fantasy font"

I'm sorry why my resolution is wrong ? I went in that links and it give me : 1920x1080

Everything is ok with your resolution.
The font in the 3rd screenshot is obviously not "oh snap", looks like a stretched version of DejaVu Sans Mono - urxvt has some internal fallback mechnism for fonts, it might not nessarily rely on the fc resolution, the size is however at least oh snap/14 and might indeed be 18pt (not 18px, though)

Define "similar" - what's your main focus? Bitmap? Shape? Weight? What's wrong w/ terminus?
Did you check the bitmap & fixed width catalogues on dafont?

He's got 2 outputs, each FullHD. One panel is 480mm x 270mm, the other one is 530mm x 300mm.
Unless the Imperial scale recently changed, that's 18.897638 x 10.629921 and 20.866142 x 11.811024 inches.
That's 1920/18.897638 x 1080/10.629921 = 101.6 x 101.6 DPI
resp. 1920/20.866142 x 1080/11.811024 92 x 91.4 DPI

The average is 96.65 DPI with about 5 DPI off to any actual value.

So I'd say that the value is fine for the given outputs (no matter whether an enforced default or calculated), but feel free to correct me?
