Disapeared Files and XFS

Hello Guys,
I'm using Arch since August 2005 and was always very happy with it or at least could solve all my problems with the Forum's Help or Wiki. But now I'm facing a problem I myself have never ever seen or heared of and I need your help.

I'm using the default Arch Kernel, with all updates and stuff, the only thing worth meantioning is,that I run ProFTPd on this machine. My Problem:

I have a IDE drive (Samsung) with XFS Filesystem on which I store many medium files (5 - 15 MB). Today I noticed that they just disapeared. The drive is mounted read only for all users and only me is root. So do you have any idea where the files went ? The Drive is missing almost 20 GB (!).

I appreciate your help.
With kind regards,
Nazgoul

Re: Disapeared Files and XFS

XFS doesn't just remove files, neither does your kernel, so I guess it's you that removed it. The only thing XFS does to your files on very big bad crashes if overwriting it with NULL characters, but that shouldn't change the size of your files.

The only thing i can think of might be some sort of corruption, be it physical harddrive corruption or filesystem corruption.

Check your logfiles and see if there has been anything interesting happening lately, also, see if you can check the S.M.A.R.T. settings on your drive and make sure all is running smoothly.
