Can I build vmware with the Xfree package, or do I need to upgrade to Xorg?
Is the Xorg process smooth now?
Thanks.

When did you last update? If you're still using XF86 I get the feeling things could get ugly.

I installed from the 0.7.1 release right after it came out - February/March...

... Then how in the heck do you have XF86 on your machine? And why?
(I take it you have a dialup connection?)

try qemu, though it is little slower to run,
but it more easier to build
I removed my sig, cause i select the flag, the flag often the target of enemy.

If you installed from 0.7.1 and run a GUI you already have xorg-server running, so go on.
You might want to wait a couple of days, as vmware player 1.0.2 is out, and will likely appear in AUR after a couple of days.

Okay, my bad....
I have xorg - R6.8.2-6
vmware-player wants xorg-server.
When I try to install the server, I get a message about ttf-bitstream-vera being needed and then xorg being a conflict. Should I upgrade xorg first, then get the new vmware version in a few days?
What is the ttf_bitstream-vera problem that it conflicts with xorg? IIRC this package had problems when I installed from the CD the first time.
Thanks.

The wiki entry should cover pretty much everything for migrating from 6.8.2 to 7.0
It's less scary than it actually sounds, and all problems reported with the migration have been resolved.

you coud also take a look at vmware server. It does mostof the stuff player does, and some more. And it dosn't depend on X to run.

well obviously at some level X is needed to run a client virtual machine

From reading some of the forum stuff on vmware, it appears that the vmware-server is positioned for non graphical applications.
They said that the vmware player or vmware workstation is better suited to graphical applications, primarily faster...
So, hopefully vmware player will get a working package that I can build with. I installed vmware-server unfortunately before finding this information out.
Thanks.
