I have an old phone with Android, and a computer with Arch Linux. I am considering installing LineageOS on my phone, but before that I would like to try it on my computer, in an emulator. I don't want to build Android apps or contribute code to LineageOS, and given the choice I don't want to build anything. Of course I read the Android page in ArchWiki, but I still couldn't figure what do I have to do. Could someone point me to the right set of instructions, please? Thanks!

I haven't tried myself, but I think you just need to clone the LineagoOS repo, instead of the AOSP one.
FWIW, I doubt testing LineageOS on an emulator would be worth the trouble. If you're interested in differences between Lineage and AOSP, there are plenty of articles and videos about those. Also, testing on an emulator won't give any indication about how well the alternative OS works on your specific hardware.

i've built roms many times for my phone but i've never used an emulator so i could be wrong but i think the build for your device will never run on the emulator. you need a different build compliled specifically for the emulator. also, as the guy above already said, you would be able to just test the features of the OS but you won't know if your hardware will work until you actually run it on the device.
in a few words, the best and fastest thing is to backup everything from TWRP and flash it.
