[SOLVED] Ark, 7z, and Firejail - can't extract 7z archive

When I try to use Ark to extract a 7zip archive, I had some trouble. It would just open a blank window. After poking around a bit, I realized that I should try whitelisting the folder the archive was in for firejail's ark configuration file, /etc/firejail/ark.local. This resulted in ark showing the 7z archive in ark showing the archive file name and an icon on the right side, but it's stuck with "Loading archive" displayed at the bottom right of the window.

When I run ark from the command line, I get the following:

[user@random myfolder]$ ark 'test file.7z'
Reading profile /etc/firejail/ark.profile
Reading profile /etc/firejail/ark.local
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-common.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-devel.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-interpreters.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-passwdmgr.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-programs.inc
Reading profile /etc/firejail/whitelist-var-common.inc
Parent pid 3412, child pid 3413
6 programs installed in 6.97 ms
Warning: /sbin directory link was not blacklisted
Warning: /usr/sbin directory link was not blacklisted
Child process initialized in 73.19 ms

I can use 7z successfully from the command line, but ark just hangs. Anyone got any ideas for Ark? I was thinking that it may be something else in the firejail configuration. . . but I don't know what.

firejail is probably still blocking some temporary location. Try running it with '--debug'

Re: [SOLVED] Ark, 7z, and Firejail - can't extract 7z archive

thanks for the suggestion, null.

As it happens, I've been extremely busy for the last 6 weeks, and couldn't find the time to follow your suggestion, and when I tried using ark again (using the gui), ark just works. Apparently, an update resolved the issue with my doing nothing further.

I'm marking this solved.
