weston5 can't start: broken pipe

Since weston has been updated from v.4 to v.5 I can not launch it anymore. Using the command line:
  weston -b drm-backend
I get a message saying:
Failed to process Wayland connection: broken pipe device removed by udev
(Actually the message is a mix of characters of two messages it look like "Broken pipeoard: removedd by udev))P'...")

Is this a bug or is there a new configuration, kernel parameter, ... etc to fix this?
