[Solved] Boot process gets stuck after installing Nvidia driver

Hello guys,

I am currently working on my endeavour migrating from Ubuntu to Arch Linux + Btrfs. The installation so far seems to work nice and I already would be in the process of setting the system and the software if the installation of the Nvidia driver would fail permanently.

The problem manifests itself, that after installing the driver according to the wiki I do the demanded reboot and I only see the lines
"starting version 239"
"Scanning for Btrfs filesystems"

After that it stucks without further information.  I've tried it with and withoud rerunning mkinitcpio, with and without the hook provided in the wiki. The packages I try to install are: nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-settings opencl-nvidia. Currently I am using a btrfs snapshot to go back before nvidia breaks my OS.

Since I am not sure what information to include I am posting some information about my hardware. I will happily provide any other requested information.

Thank you very much.

Re: [Solved] Boot process gets stuck after installing Nvidia driver

Welcome to the boards, FriedrichNietzsche.

What are you starting up? If it's GDM disable Wayland if it's a console try adding nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to your kernel params.

If neither of those fix it, post a journal log (and if a xorg start is attempted a xorg log) from a time where the issue occurs. If you've modified mkinitcpio.conf post that as well.

Well, that was a bullseye. It was indeed wayland. Could have thought about that myself. Thank you very much.
