Yesterday I updated nano (2.9.8-1 -> 3.0-1). Since then using backspace in the editor (and only there) seems bound to the 'cutwordleft' command (similar to 'db' in vim).
Setting $TERM to 'xterm' reverts this change, but that's not a way to fix this. Is there a setting I overlooked?
I'm using termite as a terminal emulator, the same happens in kitty.

No, on login it's xterm-termite. (what it should be?)

Uncomment in /etc/nanorc:
## If your Backspace key behaves as Delete (when ssh'ing in from another
## machine, for example), set this to make it behave as Backspace again:
"bind Del backspace all"
Edited:
This fixed it for me. I wrote too soon - now the delete key isn't working as expected, kind of reversed

I gonna skip the initial 3.0 version and try the next release. Almighty nano is to important for me to screw around like that.

nano 3.1 contains all the fixes and is in core available.
I suggest you mark this forum thread as solved.
