Booting Thinkpad+dock: Monitor goes black after X has started

Hi

I'm trying to boot my Lenovo Thinkpad P50 sitting in a Lenovo docking station and with an external monitor connected to this dockingstation via display port. In BIOS I activated discrete graphics only, I use nvidia-drivers, the graphics card is a GM107GLM Quadro M2000M.

This works as long as the boot hasn't reached the graphical target: bios, uefi shell and boot messages, all this is displayed correctly on my external monitor.

But as soon as X starts the monitor turns black and goes into sleep due to lack of video signal.

Strangely: if I briefly disconnect and reconnect the DP cable, it works, video is then sent to the external monitor.

I tried dockd (which didn't help at all) and udev rules (see https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comm … _and_dockd), didn't help either.

What do I have to do in order to be sure that X sends the video signal to display port?

Thanks
