So after having tried for like a week to enable a2dp_sink for my bluetooth headset on my laptop I have decided to cave in and post on the forums. I have tried most solutions presented to me when searching for "how to enable a2dp sink arch". So far, none of them have yielded a solution, although there were a few solutions I couldn't figure out as I don't use gnome. Currently I'm using i3 as my window manager with ly as my display manager.

Nothing that is of any relevance with regard to this requires GNOME, post the output of
pacmd list-cards
pacmd list-sinksAlso post the exact commands you are using to pair the headphones and how you attempt to change the profile

I have the same headset and made it work by install ofono package.
EDIT
not so fast, but it really works now :-D
OK I installed the ofono package, it is still installed, but I do not know whether it is really necessary or not. I just saw a pulseaudio error message and thought that had to be fixed.
Another issue is the headset itself, that you have to put in pairing mode. That is achieved by having the headset on, on your ears, and pushing the sound mode button (that with music notes) for 3-4 secs. Then you will hear "pairing" or something.
That is when you need to start connecting and pairing the headset on your computer. Issue, if you have done any kind of pairing or connecting before, this will not work. Because bluez keeps a cache of devices. So before you will need to empty the cache, in /var/lib/bluetooth/xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx/cache (root command line required).
I share your frustration, the user manual of Sennheiser is pretty confusing (power off headset and then push 4 seconds the button!) and this cache thing, before deleting it out of dispair, I read nowhere people doing that. I am using the bluetooth GUI of KDE.
