[SOLVED] Nautilus 3.30.1-a3ca977a1 opens files twice on Enter

Nautilus 3.30.1-a3ca977a1 opens files twice if I press Enter on them. Opening them from the context menu works fine. (Also, if I search for something first, then the Enter key works fine after that: hitting it on a file opens it only once). Does anyone else get this problem? It appeared after upgrading to 3.30. I quickly browsed through the issue tracker of Nautilus, but I could not find anything relevant.

I don't see this with up to date nautilus 3.30.1-1, not matter if I have chosen single click or double click to activate items.

I assume that is the package version. Same as mine. Strange. And yeah, the mouse works just fine. The Enter key—not so fine. I even uninstalled filemanager-actions (just in case), and it made no difference. sad

Re: [SOLVED] Nautilus 3.30.1-a3ca977a1 opens files twice on Enter

1. Do you have installed any extensions on GNOME shell? If there are any, I would disable them for testing.

2. Are there any older nautilus plugins installed that could be incompatible to version nautilus-3.30? What's the output of "pacman -Qs nautilus" ?

3. Do you have problems with repeating keystrokes on any other application? In GNOME you can set delay and speed to repeat pressed keys under  "Settings | Universal Access | Typing | Repeat Keys". Maybe you are holding the enter key too long, though it's recognized twice. You can log all keystrokes (press and release events) on the GNOME session, e.g. by running "xinput test <device id>" in a terminal (run "xinput list" first to get the device id of the keyboard).

4. There could be also a hardware problem with your enter key. Have you tested the 2nd enter key (if you have a full-sized keyboard) just to be sure? This could also be analyzed with xinput.

5. Maybe there is a problem caused by old GNOME settings. If the previous points didn't help, I would test with a new empty user profile.

Re: [SOLVED] Nautilus 3.30.1-a3ca977a1 opens files twice on Enter

spinnau,

1. Yes. I disabled them—no difference.

2.

$ pacman -Qs nautilus
local/libnautilus-extension 3.30.1-1
Library for extending the Default file manager for GNOME
local/nautilus 3.30.1-1 (gnome)
    Default file manager for GNOME
local/nautilus-sendto 3.8.6+14+ge8a3604-1 (gnome-extra)
    Easily send files via mail

3. Nope. Everything seems to work fine. Tried both xinput and xev, and there is only one key press/release event per keystroke.

4. See 3. Also, the Enter on the numeric block has the exact same problem in Nautilus.

5. I tried it as root, and there was NO(!) problem. I’ll try it as a new regular user as soon as I can get X to start (console permission problems).

Thanks for your input!

OK, I hunted it down to 'export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim' in .xinitrc. Commented out that line and the problem seems to be gone. Marking as solved.
