[SOLVED] Configuring nmh for outgoing mail

Edited /etc/nmh/mts.conf and selected mts: sendmail/pipe.
ln -s /usr/bin/msmtp /usr/bin/sendmail

At present, and until Verizon comes and sets it up, I have no internet connection. As a result, and with her permission, I am connecting to my downstairs neighbor's wifi.
I've got an ~/.msmtprc file with entry " host mail.riseup.net"
I've got an /etc/nmh/mts.conf file with entry "servers: mail.riseup.net"

The "credentials" section of the mh_profile man page confuses me no end.
I've tried "credentials: legacy" assuming details would be pulled from gnome-keyring as well as creating a file:netrc and trying that.

In every case mail is rejected by Spamhaus telling me my neighbor's ISP (Spectrum) has denied access.
Message from nmh: post: unexpected response; [RPLY] 554 5.7.1 <cpe-24-168-28-144.si.res.rr.com[24.168.28.144]>: Client host rejected: Access denied
send: message not delivered to anyone
Message from journalctl: Oct 11 11:12:00 glenda smtpd[4503]: 942f462ed95a012e mta event=error reason=BANNER rejected: 3390250 5.7.1 Mail from IP 24.168.28.144 was rejected due to listing in Spamhaus PBL. For details please see http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=24.168.28.144.

I guess I just don't understand how email works. Why is my outgoing email going thru my neighbor's ISP when I specifically name mail.riseup.net as the server in every place
I can think of, and why do I have no problem when sending email thru mutt?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
