I had a Lenovo x220, i5, with Arch installed for a few months with no issues. I decided I wanted to upgrade the motherboard to the i7. After the install I had to do a little tinkering to get it to mount the drives and got it to work.
Problem:
When I close the lid it no longer suspends. Doesn't even register that the lid closed. I can crack the lid open just enough to see that the screen is still on. Also the battery light does not indicate that its not on the charger.
Attempts to fix according to searches found:
1. edited /etc/systemd.logind.conf by uncommenting
HandleLidSwitch=suspend
HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore (switched to suspend)
2.
$ journalctl -f

3. Also, opened the laptop back up to make sure all the cables are correctly connected.
If I missed any important information please let me know as this is my first post but I have not needed to post before due to being pretty ok with searching for solutions until now.

Did you also open the display assembly? I had a case recently where the connector on the webcam assembly, which also has the hall sensor that registers the closing of the lid, was loose. Does your x220 have an webcam and is it still registered with the system?

I did not open the display assembly. The webcam does work without any issues.

I tried to work that out with acpi but nothing changes when closing the lid, as if its not being recognized at all... any suggestions ?

I can just reiterate on what i suspect: The Hall sensor on your notebook should turn of the display when your display lid is closing. That is the behaviour I see on a all Thinkpads I have had to deal with to this day(not influenced by the OS). Could it be that the new motherboard has different PIN assignment talking to the display?
