[SOLVED] What tells xinit to look in the /usr/share/X11... for .confs?

From the wiki pages here, I understand that both startx and xinit commands will first look in the home directory, then the /etc/... and if no .xinitrc is found, "default" settings will be used. Now, in the https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Configuration there's the following:

"Note: Arch supplies default configuration files in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/, and no extra configuration is necessary for most setups."

I may have missed something, but the page seems to imply that when looking for .conf files, xinit will search the /etc/X11/...  directory first, then the /usr/share/... one. This is just my interpretation and I haven't experimented enough to know if it's right or wrong so here are my questions:

Is there some file that tells xinit where to look for .confs, like there is for say .Xresources in initrc, and if so which?
If not, how does xinit know to look in /usr/share/X11/ specifically?
Also, does finding a single .conf file in /etc/X11 automatically stop xinit from searching, or would it still check /usr/share/X11 for other parameters (and use them if they're not conflicting)? I know I can check this last one myself through experimentation, but I'm still a bit timid about changing stuff without fully understanding the outcome.

Welcome to the arch linux forums Kolo.  At least some of the questions are covered by `man 5 xorg.conf` and the upstream source https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserv … eson.build

xinit does not read those configuration files, xorg does as noted in `man Xorg` which would then point you to the above-mentioned `man xorg.conf`.
