Hi,
I don't understand why IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition from official repo and Ultimate Edition from AUR both require giflib (and also libxtst for UE). JetBrains' doc says nothing about any dependencies at all and so does Google.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, correct me if I'm wrong please.
Thanks.

It was added as a dependency almost exactly 7 years ago, namcap doesn't think it's needed:
intellij-idea-community-edition W: Dependency included and not needed ('giflib')and a quick string search of all files in the package doesn't return any instances of "gif2rgb|gifbuild|gifclrmp|gifecho|giffix|gifinto|giftext|giftool|libgif.so", so I'd suggest that this dep isn't needed any more, and opening a bug report about it isn't a bad idea. For brownie points, you could try building the package in a clean chroot without this dep, and see if the resultant package works as expected.
