GNOME+Wayland Fractional Scaling on HiDPI display

Hi folks,

I recently switched to a 4K display. When I compare fractional scaling between Wayland and X it seems that Wayland is often just "zooming in" which makes a lot off applications look pretty ugly. On X it seems to work a lot better using xrandr.
As it is an older machine I would like to stick to Wayland because it feels smoother than X on 4K. I have looked for solutions but couldn't find any so far. Any ideas?

Can you give some details on your setup? How have you setup the fractional scaling, etc.? Currently, on GNOME Wayland fractional scaling is experimental and has a bug upstream that the framebuffer is scaled incorrectly and appears blurry - that's for XWayland apps. Wayland native applications should be fine, I think.

As descibed in the ArchWiki. Wayland using the experimental feature, X combining scale-facrtor and xrandr.

Currently, on GNOME Wayland fractional scaling is experimental and has a bug upstream that the framebuffer is scaled incorrectly and appears blurry - that's for XWayland apps. Wayland native applications should be fine, I think.

I think that's the piece of information I was missing and that explains the behavior. Thanks!
