Getting rid of Arch

Good Morning All,

I'm relatively new to Linux and have come across an older laptop that has Arch Linux installed on it and am finding working in the command line a little overwhelming.

I've been thinking of transitioning to another distro until I'm a little more proficient, but I have no idea how to boot into the iso I've created from Arch so that I can install the new distro.

Arch is the only OS on this laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Re: Getting rid of Arch

Just plug it in and select it from the BIOS/UEFI menu.

Re: Getting rid of Arch

It's fairly common to see either a manufacturer logo or a Power On Self Test screen when you first turn on the machine.  Some usual keys you can press while the machine is there - you only have a few seconds - could be either F8 or F12.  But the key could be anything else.  Pressing the del key repeatedly while the machine is POSTing is another convention most manufacturers follow.  What is important is this is in the first few seconds of powering the machine on - before it has begun to load any operating system.  While in that state you want to find a menu option, as JWR said, and with your USB thumbdrive or disc medium choose to boot from it.  The medium should be connected before the machine is powered on.  Then you do whatever the medium you choose wants to do.

Re: Getting rid of Arch

Thanks for the quick replies,

Each time I try and select the USB through the boot menu I can't find it. In Arch terminal I can see the USB attached as sdc but whenever I go to the boot menu and try to load from there, the boot loader can't see it. I keep getting an error telling me that it can't enumerate port2.

Sorry if this is vague. This is no small part of the reason why I want to get off Arch.

Cheers.

Disregards smile

I'm an idiot, and that's not the first time I get to say that with Linux. My machine uses UEFI, and when I originally formatted the linux iso to my USB I just left the default format on mbr as opposed to GPT. I'm installing my new distro as we speak. Thank you very much for the help.

Cheers.
