MPD and NCMPCPP

Hi all

I've had problem when I've tried to configure MPD.

Although I had specify "127.0.0.1" as my localhost and port 6600 in my mpd.config file ,it kept spitting out this error message when I tried to launch mpd in console:

exception: Failed to bind to '127.0.0.1:6600'
exception: nested: Failed to bind socket: Address already in use

Any workaround to solve this problem cause I absolutely no idea I've been on this all day and couldn't figure it out myself, So any help would be so much appreciated.

db_file "~/.config/mpd/database"
log_file "~/.config/mpd/log"
music_directory "~/Music"
playlist_directory "~/.config/mpd/playlists"
pid_file "~/.config/mpd/pid"
state_file "~/.config/mpd/state"
sticker_file "~/.config/mpd/sticker.sql"

auto_update "yes"

bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"
restore_paused "yes"
max_output_buffer_size "16384"
port "6600"

audio_output {
      type "pulse"
      name "pulse audio"
      mixer_type "software"
}

Thanks.

Re: MPD and NCMPCPP

How are you attempting to start mpd? If you want to use systemd for this you are well advised to not use the system service but the user service instead (read: if you've currently enabled any of the system services, disable/stop them and use the systemctl --user commands from your own user instead.

Hi first of all thanks for replying..
I was running systemd socket using this command

systemctl enable mpd.socket

and start the service using

 systemctl start mpd.socket

When I tried to use systemctl --user in terminal it gave me this error

Job for mpd.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl --user status mpd.service" and "journalctl --user -xe" for details.

I don't know what went wrong there.

Re: MPD and NCMPCPP

There wasn't any..I wish they had therefore I didn't have to open this post and solve it myself.

Anyway finally got it worked after I applied systemctl --user after reboot and big thanks @V1del for pointing me out in the right direction.

Please mark this thread as solved.

There wasn't any.

I'm not sure if there is a language barrier here, but there was two. Read the systemctl output. It's not there for decorative purposes.

Also read the Code of Conduct while you are at it. The procedure on how to mark your thread as solved is described under the How To Post section.

Re: MPD and NCMPCPP

I use both mentioned. I dont have it start as a service. I simply have it called via my i3 config file:
exec --no-startup-id mpd

This works for me so YMMV depending on how you wish to get it going.

Cheers
Chris

Thanks for reminding me I would add that to my i3 config file.
