After upgrading to version 4.0.2, cinnamon crashs with segfault in libgirepository.

Downgrading cinnamon and muffin to 4.0.1, works OK

Same here, after updating Cinnamon to 4.0.2:
Nov 19 21:53:49 xxxxxx kernel: cinnamon[1335]: segfault at 5564acd6e350 ip 00007f445f325715 sp 00007ffff89f9fc8 error 4 in libc-2.28.so[7f445f1e8000+14b000]

In my case libc segfaults.
Downgrading Cinnamon to 4.0.1 works, with Muffin still at 4.0.2
Kernel is 'Linux xxxxxx 4.19.2-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 13 21:16:19 UTC 2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux', all packages up-to-date.
Cheers,

I am seeing similar behavior on my system after upgrading Cinnamon to 4.0.2. Downgrading it to 4.0.1 gets it back into a working state.

Works for me.
When does it crash? Immediately after starting, or later? Can you provide coredumpctl stack traces? I have a custom repository with glib2 and gtk3 debug symbols here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … #eschwartz
But if you need debug symbols for any other part of the stack, you'll need to compile those yourself ATM.
Also, here's the differences between 4.0.1 and 4.0.2: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/c … .1...4.0.2
Not much there other than js changes to the applets.

I finally circled back around and a got chance to dig into this some more. I've got three machines with Arch that I use Cinnamon on and out of the two I tried I was able to replicate these issues on both. With that in mind I updated all of my Cinnamon applets. Still no dice. I then removed the applets that Cinnamon had and continues to warn could be problematic namely the Multi-Core System Monitor and the CPU Temperature applets. That seemed to resolve my issue on both machines.
Presumably those applets have not been updated to work with Cinnamon 4.0.2 yet. However given that Cinnamon has consistently indicated they will be a source of possible problems, I believe that I'm just going to eliminate them altogether.
EDIT: The crash for me at least happened during startup.

Well, feel free to open an issue at https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-spices-applets/ with log info included, and maybe it can be fixed.

A mi me sucede lo mismo, al iniciar la sesión en cinnamon (4.0.2) se queda colgado, solo logro iniciar en el modo cinnamon (Software Rendering).

No idea what that is in English, but either way, the author was able to reproduce the issue with just multicore-sys-monitor, and there's an update pending at https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-s … /pull/2094

Good to hear there is progress. For what it's worth I can confirm multicore-sys-monitor was the culprit in my case as well.

Actually it is now merged and the new version is live on the spices website.
Please try updating the applet.

Great. Remember to edit your first post and modify the thread title to include the word "[Solved]".
