Is this a missing font?

Hello,
I am struggling to resolve this issue, any help/pointers greatly appreciated.
I am trying to use an i3 bar called bumblebee-status, it says I must have installed Font Awesome and powerline-fonts, so I installed ttf-font-awesome and powerline-fonts. This made the icons appear but I still have little boxes with numbers in surrounding the icons. I assume this some character which will not render but I'm not sure if its a missing font or some other mis-configuration

What does this look like to you?

It appears to be missing fonts. When you installed Font Awesome did you use Font Awesome 4 from AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf-font-awesome-4/?

installing that AUR package fixed my problem
