Audio/video playing too fast through HDMI

After buying a new TV to use as a monitor through HDMI with my AMD RX480, I've noticed that whenever I try to play anything through it, the video/audio seems to go faster than usual. From what I've read, it seems to be happening due to mismatching sample rates. Any ideas on how to fix that?

I have amdgpu.dc=1 set as a kernel parameter to enable audio.

Here's some info that may be useful:

Re: Audio/video playing too fast through HDMI

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the same issue with a vega 64.

Re: Audio/video playing too fast through HDMI

Perhaps a thing to try would be to set things to 48kHz. By default PulseAudio switches between 44.1kHz and 48kHz sometimes. Disabling this and making it only use 48kHz can be done by creating this file here:

~/.config/pulse/daemon.conf

And then putting the following contents in there:

default-sample-rate = 48000
alternate-sample-rate = 48000
default-sample-format = s16le
resample-method = speex-float-5

(it's also possible to edit the global file in /etc/pulse/)

I believe this is not an issue. I think the sample rates differ because of the incoming streams from the media you are playing. Some media are encoded at 44kHz and some at 48kHz (think of 48 kHz like HD audio) and some newer audio streams even much higher. Your audio card seems to be set default at 48kHz but that will still come down to 44kHz if the incoming stream is only 44kHz. My feeling is your problem is not in pulse but I can be wrong. I don't have a solution though but I will share one if I have some idea.

Re: Audio/video playing too fast through HDMI

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)

My thought is perhaps it's the sound card's default bitrate that needs adjusting. Perhaps what is happening is you have a stream coming in at 44Khz (as pulse would show as input stream) but comes out as 48kHz on your HDMI output. The pitch then becomes higher. I was probably wrong in saying earlier that the bitrate from your HDMI output comes down to 44kHz. This is purely a guess however.

Re: Audio/video playing too fast through HDMI

This is likely hardware related, check your cables and if that isn't it, follow my debugging steps in that thread to try and rule out some power related caveat

more likely GPU drivers, especially since pulse should not have any hand in "video" playback.

Try ruling out this power setting if that doesn't help try adding to your kernel parameters

amdgpu.dpm=0 amdgpu.aspm=0 amdgpu.runpm=0 amdgpu.bapm=0

If those fixed it, try to remove them again one by one until you've ruled out the offender.
