TeXLive update failure: fmtutil, updmap: Bus error (core dumped)

Hi. I apologize in advance for any forum etiquette failures I'll make.
I did a full system update yesterday (pacman -Syu) for the first time in about a year.
Everything updated successfully (after some struggle) except texlive-core, for which fmtutil and updmap both failed with a bus error.
Here is the output.

[root@LATITUDE630 /]# pacman -Syu texlive-core

I'm stuck. I've tried running fmtutil, fmtutil-sys, and updmap, updmap-sys from the command line, which also returns Bus error (and no further information). I have also removed every texlive package, then reinstalled it, but it still arrives to the same error.

Of course, latex is not working at this point:

[userx@LATITUDE630 books]$ pdflatex testtex.tex
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.19 (TeX Live 2018/Arch Linux) (preloaded format=pdflatex)
restricted \write18 enabled.
---! /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/pdflatex.fmt made by different executable version
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)
