Hey guys, this is weird.
I'm trying to install and play Path of Exile. While everything works, (the game downloads and starts up and plays well) it installs itself in my home folder, which is really annoying.
A little background info:
---------------------------------------------
First time I tried to play PoE I downloaded the installer and ran it with wine and everything went just as it was supposed to go, meaning that the game installed in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile/ Great.
It didn't run very well though. The directX 11 couldn't be used because there was a bug (in wine?) Which resulted in an errors and the game wouldn't lauch. The DirectX 9 versions wasn't stable and there was a lot of crashing.
So I googled a little and found a workaround which was to apply a custom patch to wine and build it myself. I didn't know which of the wine-staging patches I should apply so I just applied them all. I did this according to the guide in winehq wiki and built a WoW64 build of wine in my /S1T/wine32/ directory. (S1T is just the name I chose for my hard drive).
I then ran the game executable with:
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine /S1T/wine32/wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile/PathOfExile.exeBecause that is where I had the game installed already and thought this might save me some trouble and time. To my surprise the client started downloading the game again... Oh whatever, I thought. If a little waiting is what I have to do to finally get to play without crashing I'll do it. And it was stable. After the game had finished downloading I could lauch the directx 11 version and play without crashes. It was only later that I noticed that the assets of the game were all dumped in my home folder.
So I thought that maybe I shouldn't have used the regular wine prefix for this. Maybe that caused the problem? So I decided to make a new wine prefix for PoE: ~/poe-wineprefix . I cleaned up my home folder and ran the installer:
WINEPREFIX=~/poe-wineprefix /S1T/wine32/wine ~/Downloads/PathOfExileInstaller.exeEverything goes as I want so far: The prefix gets created, and when I accept the EULA and choose to install, the directory .../Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile/ gets created in the Program Files (x86) of this new wine prefix. Great. But when I run the executable in said directory:
WINEPREFIX=~/poe-wineprefix /S1T/wine32/wine ~/poe-wineprefix/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile/PathOfExile.exe Guess what happens again? The client starts downloading the game, not in the newly created directory, but in my home folder again.
---------------------------------------------
Any ideas what could be the cause behind this? Guy in irc channel said to me that wine creates symlinks into $HOME for typical paths and that is probably why this happens. But I'm still not sure what to do about this. For what it's worth, I _can_ play the game fine now. If I just can ignore the disorganization...

check ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/$USER

check ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/$USER
What should I check for in there? There is no profiles folder under ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/

Hum?
find ~/.wine -type lOffline
DarthMucus should probably check ~/poe-wineprefix/drive_c/windows/profiles/$USER .
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

No "profiles" folder exists in that path either. And I still don't know what I should be looking for in there if it did.

smlinks to your $HOME, did you try the find call?
Also it's frankly pretty odd that you have no windows profile.
