I have installed alsa and pulseaudio since some time, but didnt noticed alsa-equalizer is deprecated and messed up my sound, i have uninstalled alsa-equalizer and i think all its configuration, but my sound system has never been the same again since then, recently i have configured My Generic sound card as default, but since then i sometimes dont have sound in some applications.
Here its the output for aplay -l

➜ ~ I see in aplay -L that my Generic and Headphones support even sorround 7.1 , how do I enable this ???
So card 0 device 0 is the correct one, please help me ![]()
Also the sound system takes too long to become active after boot, this was not a problem in the past.
Neither sound on games
, installed openal for 3d sound, but no luck, tired of reading the wiki, and i dont know whats wrong.
Btw, i have Ardour , a DAW for crating music and video, this is a hobby, but i need to have the sound system very well if i want to use it for creating music !!!

Hello comunity !!!
I have read a lot all the wiki and more, i dont know if somebody can help me but this is additional info i have and my findings. I have fixed a lot of things but still i have problems.
Additional to the above post, heres more info.-
My /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
GNU nano 3.2 /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd slots=snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_usb_audio,snd$
options snd_hda_codec_generic index=0
options snd_usb_audio index=1
options snd_hda_intel enable=0In this configuration file i have defined my generic speackers as default ( index=0 ) then my usb headphones ( index=1 ) and finally i have disbled the intel audio, which i think i dont use
options snd_hda_intel enable=0 Everything seems ok, my Speakers are now default, but i cannot change between devices in sound manager, neither use the sound across applications, it is in exclusive mode becouse of this file and the hw parameter .-
This is my /etc/asound.conf
GNU nano 3.2 /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!surround21 {
type vdownmix
card Generic
device 0
}
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm {
@func getenv
vars [ ALSAPCM ]
default "hw:Generic"
}
}
ctl.equal {
type equal;
}Here i want to use downmixing , and i also use the alsaequal AUR for that equalizer, for downmixing i want to use my Speackers with its subwoofer 2.1 "system" in surround21 mode, so that is why i added this part of the configuration file.-
pcm.!surround21 {
type vdownmix
card Generic
device 0
}As you can see here i have specified my Generic card and its device 0 , which is the analog one, ( i have tested and i sounds ok with a .wav file )
Next i have established my Generic card as default but since i added the hw parameter, it is in exclusive move, which i dont want, if i remove the hw parameter, it doesnt work ![]()
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm {
@func getenv
vars [ ALSAPCM ]
default "hw:Generic"
}
}The rest of that configuration file is to setup the alsaequal , which i cannot test becouse the alsamixer command throws a error in the terminal , i have verified the service through systemctl and it is loaded but not active, and i cannot fix this neither.
But in the past i have unmuted the channels with alsamixer, now it doesnt work and i dont know why.
This is my /proc/asound/card*/id
➜ ~ cat /proc/asound/card*/id
Headset
GenericAnd this is also my /proc/asound/modules
➜ ~ cat /proc/asound/modules
1 snd_usb_audio
3 snd_hda_intel
➜ ~Also some games at Steam doesnt have sound, someones i have fixed the issue, but in general everything is not so good.
Could someone spread me with his/her wisedom ? please.

If you want to use pulseaudio remove all the configuration you've shown here, and install pulseaudio-alsa (and lib32-alsa-plugins) instead. This will automatically allow for the device switching and upmixing/downmixing guarantees pulse provides. If you intend to use pulseaudio you shouldn't mix it with incompatible ALSA definitions, this will only bite itself with pulseaudio. Install pavucontrol to get a somewhat understandable representation of pulse's audio state where you can switch between relevant channel counts on the configuration tab and move applications between streams.
And for all intents and purposes don't use alsaequal, but a relevant pulse alternatives. Pulse has it's own equalizer you can configure with qpaeq from the pulseaudio-equalizer package, but that one has relatively little customization options, something like pulseeffects will be more extensive.
If it still doesn't work as you'd expect it to, post
systemctl --user status pulseaudio

Hi @V1del !!!!
I think you are directing me to the right solution, but i have still problems, this is what i did.-
1.- I had already installed pulseaudio-alsa, lib32-alsa-plugins
2.- Removed 3 files i had, this ones were /etc/asound.conf , /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf AND ~/.asoundrc
3.- I have installed pavucontrol and pulseaudio-equalizer
Here is what is happening, pavucontrol fails to show, it says "Establishing connection to PulseAudio, please wait" and it hangs there forever, also the volume controls or "applet" doesnt show most of the time, if i open Sound Preferences in my Mate, i cannot change between
the headphones or the Speakers, no sound also in most applications, Steam worse, LOL .
So when i saw this i have unistalled completely PulseAudio and all pulseaudio related things, with no luck ( btw i had some gnome desktop packages, dont know why, i had gnome-bluetooth , budgie-desktop and mutter , i had removed them all ) ![]()
Then i have installed again all PulseAudio related things, but it still doesnt work, i have noticed that when i remove PulseAudio the volume controls and related applets load faster after boot.
Pulseaudio service seems fine heres the output.-

Yeah that configuration doesn't make sense, remove it, or at the very least ensure you are including the system wide file, because right now you are loading a minimal subset of modules that is very unlikely to be what you want. Did you also adjust the system wide /etc/pulse/default.pa ? Post it if you did.

Hello !!!
Yes, yesterday i had configured some little pieces of PulseAudio setup i thought they were not correct.
I have succeded to make my headphones work, but now they are the only card i can use, my speakers are not by default, neither i can change between headphones to speakers or vice versa, and since pavucontrol doent still open, i cannot set the default card easily.
Got the feeling that indeed as you say my /etc/pulse/default.pa is wrong, i had added this last line to set a default card.

When i add that info, index 0 and profile Generic, to the last line of the /etc/pulse/default.pa it throws me an error that that index and profile is not found, so i cant set my speakers as default. You shurely know how to fix that, but im not shure if thats the solution.
I have also made little modifications to other PulseAudio related files, but honestly i dont remember which, LOL , i have read a lot more and changing little things from here and there.
If i just could succed in opening pavucontrol, i could fix with your help all this very fast. ![]()
Oh i remember some things now, JACK wasnt configured correctly also, i have added this also to the same configuration file...
load-module module-jackdbus-detect channels=2If i understand it is in order for JACK to load at startup, thats why it loads that module.

You shouldn't have to add the default set to that file, as it will be stored after it is set once successfully (also that definition would be incorrect as we should now be using autodetected, predictable names, check pacmd list-sinks for the fully qualified name to use)
The fact that you apparently can't start pavucontrol properly might point to another issue though. How are you starting your session? How are you logging in, starting xorg? Though the previous status output reads fine, what are your outputs for
loginctl session-status
printenv | grep DBUSDo you use dbus-launch in any start up script or similar?
the jack module is already properly loaded earlier in the file, you should simply ensure that you are using jack2-dbus and have pulseaudio-jack installed.

As already mentioned, remove ~/.config/pulse/default.pa, it literally breaks everything.
There are much saner ways of applying the equalizer, as it stands this config throws out 99% of what pulseaudio can give you to get a static, non properly defined ALSA sink and some form of an equalizer on that sink.

Oh sorry V1del didnt noticed in my last post you had answered so fast.-
In my last Arch Linux install i had also mate with a custom greeter, which was Webkit greeter, it was working ok in the past, but when i wanted to install Arch again, i couldnt fix it to work again, without installing again, so i now use the default that it is gtk-greeter i think
Here is the output for the commands you asked.-
➜ ~ loginctl session-status

Do you want additional specs about my system?
