Not sure which thread this belongs in so I'm posting it here in the newbie section.
I'm looking at making the switch to Arch Linux permanently so I'm testing out my commonly used programs first. Blender3d && Unity3d.
No issues installing them, generally unity3d works with .blend files by using blender to export them to fbx with python scripting.
when bringing my .blend file into Unity3d I get ERROR Cannot convert to .FBX
Unity3d log file prints io_scene_fbx.export_fbx module not found. I've determined it's not a path issue but a missing module altogether.
export_fbx.py is missing from here
/usr/share/blender/2.79/scripts/addons/io_scene_fbx/export_fbx.pyManually adding it does fix the issue, so...
My question is that given this file is there by default with other distro installations, how could it have been removed from the Arch build and what else could be missing?
or
how can I report this correctly and potentially have the repo fixed.
same issue installing blender-2.8-bin from the AUR repo.
Thanks for your time.

It got removed upstream for being outdated: https://git.blender.org/gitweb/gitweb.c … 90f39bd374 and Arch is running a newer Blender snapshot for increased compatibility with the rest of the stack
Is an adjustment/setting in Unity to use the newer format possible and/or is an export to FBX from within Blender and a subsequent handling in Unity possible?

Thank you for such a quick reply, you certainly answered my question.
Regarding Unity I'm not sure what a newer format would entail or if another way is possible . Exporting to FBX from within Blender works, however time consuming given current projects.
I updated my post to mention that I manually added the most recent export_fbx.py file to the aforementioned directory and it is working as it should.
Should this issue be taken up with the Unity devs if they're not already aware?

I'd say so, the export_fbx_bin.py file should probably be used in preference.

correct, just done a quick copy&rename of that file and it still worked.
Solved.

That "might" have unforseen consequences, I haven't looked at it in detail and don't know how compatible it is for the same parameters/arguments that unity might be using and expecting to be handled by the old script.

Interesting, I'll continue to use the export_fbx.py file I copied from my linux mint install while I'm testing.
I'll follow up when I find out more at Unity3d's end.
