Laptop dock network interface shows up on boot, but not on redock

When I boot up my computer while it is attached to a dock through USB-C, ip link shows I have a network interface called ens4u1u3c2 and my wired network connection works. dmesg shows "[    3.385690] cdc_ether 4-1.3:2.0 ens4u1u3c2: renamed from eth0", and when I undock my computer, it shows "[   97.998616] cdc_ether 4-1.3:2.0 ens4u1u3c2: unregister 'cdc_ether' usb-0000:3c:00.0-1.3, CDC Ethernet Device". But when I redock my laptop again, I can see bunch of USB stuff in dmesg, but no mention of ens4u1u3c2 and it's missing from ip link and my network connection does not work. Why could this be and what could I try to fix it?

Re: Laptop dock network interface shows up on boot, but not on redock

Open /etc/default/grub and edit line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

replace on

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0"

run as root:

grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg && reboot

Just funny! This will eliminate headaches and device renames.

Re: Laptop dock network interface shows up on boot, but not on redock

I don't have that file because I don't use GRUB and device renaming is not the problem. It's that the device does not appear again at all, when I reconnect my laptop to the dock.
