[SOLVED]X display size settings not read

I'm following this guide to set the dimensions of my screen. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-monitor.conf I have

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier             "Screen0"
    DisplaySize         345 193    # In millimeters
EndSection

but the output of

$ xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution

doesn't match. It says

screem #0"
  dimensions: 3840x2160 pixels (1016x571 millimeters)
  resolution: 96x96 dots per inch

How come my input numbers are not being read?
Thanks

Re: [SOLVED]X display size settings not read

As in every other of your last series of threads: paste your Xorg log. And your xinitrc.

Moving to NC...

Re: [SOLVED]X display size settings not read

With code tags as you used in your first post...

Where do all these random other configurations come from, and are you trying to start xorg as root? I'd assume that's an old xorg file, if you properly startx as your user the log will be at ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log

Sorry I don't know how to make the text limited to a small area with scroll bars.

Well, you managed it in your first post in this thread...
There is a BBCode link at the bottom left of every text box.

[  2423.236] (++) Using config file: "/root/xorg.conf.new"

What is that? And why is it under /root?

Re: [SOLVED]X display size settings not read

Your xorg.conf file is /root/xorg.conf.new

The xorg.log was from a run of  `# Xorg :0 -configure`?

Re: [SOLVED]X display size settings not read

xdpyinfo calculates the physical dimensions from the given DPI, "xrandr -q" should show the expected metrics.
96dpi is somewhat the "default" resolution, you could change it w/ an "xrandr --dpi 283" call in your xinitrc and the nvidia driver also supports

Section "Device"
   …
   Option "UseEdidDpi" "False"
   Option "DPI" "283x284"
   …
EndSection

Which couold reside in eg. /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … conf_files

Re: [SOLVED]X display size settings not read

Per the advice of

Seth wrote:

you could change it w/ an "xrandr --dpi 283" call in your xinitrc

I added the line xrandr --dpi 144

#!/bin/sh

userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap

# merge in defaults and keymaps

if [ -f $sysresources ]; then
    xrdb -merge $sysresources
fi

if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
    xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi

if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then

    xrdb -merge "$userresources"

fi

if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
    xmodmap "$usermodmap"
fi

# start some nice programs

if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
 for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
  [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
 done
 unset f
fi
xrandr --dpi 144
exec i3

The output of

xdpyinfo | grep -B2 resolution

is

screen #0:
  dimensions:    3840x2160 pixels (677x381 millimeters)
  resolution:    144x144 dots per inch

which does reflect the setting in .xinitrc. However, the dimensions (mm) are still wrong. The Xorg.0.log I gave you before was from a root run, I guess. I'm attaching here the log of the latest run, after updating .xinitrc below
