Generally I update right before I shutdown the computer.
Today, after loading and going to the GNOME login screen - I cannot seem to get in.
The password is not wrong, if I type the wrong password it still gives me an error.
In this instance, the screen flickers once, then I am faced with the login screen again. When I click on the user and type the password - it goes flickers as if to update the screen, then goes right back to the login screen. No failure messages, just like a loop.
I have no tried to change the password because it does not appear to be the problem. And since this has been working fine for a year, I am confused as to what happened. I did not modify any config files apart from the last update.
So there are 2 options,
1 - see if I can set to make it login automatically without prompt
2 - try to login without GNOME and see if that works so I can change files to get the rest to work
It was mainly systemd that got updated, it was not a big update in the last check so I am not sure what happened.
Any ideas for a starting point to resolve?

Thank you.
That worked. It was a display driver issue that I was able to finally identify and fix.
I could not use journalctl because I could not login to the OS.
Once I was able to shut off the display, I could log in and update correctly.

For posterity, many people had these same symptoms since updating yesterday. Whilst yours may have been caused by a graphics driver, for others with the same symptoms around about the same time, it may be this flatpak bug:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/61420
Flatpak's session startup script had an error in them that GDM would trip of when starting an X session. It was fixed quickly though so anyone updating as of now should get the fix.
