[Solved] Shutdown doesn't ever happen on Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme

I installed arch on my Thinkpad X1 Extreme last night and when I wanted to shut it down, I typed:

shutdown now

For some reason it just hangs on a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I held down the power button and rebooted, trying the below this time. The same thing happened.

halt

I decided to leave it in this state overnight to see if it would eventually shutdown. This morning, I woke up to a flat laptop, so it seems that it just hangs in this state for eternity.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Or knows how to go about fixing it? I'm unsure where to check the logs for shutting the computer down, so that may be a start.

I managed to fix this issue by installing the nvidia drivers.
