My laptop suspend correctly once after boot but fail next

Hello Archers,

First, I want to apology for my english 'speaking'. I'm french wink as you'll see in following lines..

I run archlinux + xfce on MacBook Air;
(More precisely, I installed archlinux on a usb-key from a VirtualMachine running under OS X. Understand : it's not a live-usb, it's a 'real' install. I just need to test archlinux before changing anything on my hard disc.)

From the beginning, suspending my laptop isn't working well. For more than one month I glanced through ArchWiki and Forum but nothing works.

Here is what I experience every day :

  • The first lid-closing-event after booting leads to suspend the laptop; like I want it to.

  • After waking up my laptop, no way to suspend it again, even by executing 'systemctl suspend'. A black screen appears for 1 second and then screen comes back to awake state.

It seems something doesn't come back to its initial state after waking up but what ?

Here are config files and systemd-inhibit output :

  • /etc/systemd/logind.conf :

    # few lines commented...
    # See logind.conf(5) for details.

    [Login]
    #NAutoVTs=6
    #ReserveVT=6
    #KillUserProcesses=no

    #IdleActionSec=30min
    #RuntimeDirectorySize=10%
    #RemoveIPC=yes
    #InhibitorsMax=8192
    #SessionsMax=8192
  • ~/.config/xcfe4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml :

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

    <channel name="xfce4-power-manager" version="1.0">

        <property name="hibernate-button-action" type="uint" value="2"/>
      </property>
    </channel>
  • output of 'systemd-inhibit --list' (sorry for 'layout', I can't manage it better..) :

    WHO UID USER PID COMM WHAT WHY MODE
    UPower 0 root 685 upowerd sleep Pause device p… delay

    2 inhibitors listed.

So, anyone can help me ?

Hi there,

unfortunately I have no solution for you, but wanted to make you aware that there are many folks having those problems with MBP since Kernel 4.19.8: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=242664
