[Solved] Fonts for terminator

Hello,

I am working with the Terminator terminal program on Archlinux in the act of changing fonts I noticed that some of the fonts selected look terrible (overlap of letters) vs what is set by default. I tried to install a custom true font and experienced the overlap issue. Can someone advise some specific fonts that I can download or use that does not have the overlap effect?

Thanks,
henninb

Re: [Solved] Fonts for terminator

What was the custom font you tried?  Was it monospace?  How did you install it?

If you installed it via pacman and it is indeed a monospace font, could you link to a screenshot illustrating the problem?

@Trilby

Here is the source of the fonts I tried.

https://github.com/supermarin/YosemiteS … master.zip

I copied the files in 2 places (/usr/share/fonts/TTF and $HOME/.local/share/fonts).

System San Francisco Display Bold.ttf     System San Francisco Display Thin.ttf
System San Francisco Display Regular.ttf  System San Francisco Display Ultralight.ttf

I will post the output in a separate thread shortly.

Thanks,

The image https://github.com/BitExplorer/images/b … G_6157.jpg demonstrates the "overlapping".

The image https://github.com/BitExplorer/images/b … G_6158.jpg shows the settings that cause the overlap.

In terminator -- when I use the system fixed width font the overlapping is gone.

Re: [Solved] Fonts for terminator

First, please avoid copying files directly to places outside your home folder.  Use pacman to install packages and make one if necessary.  In this case, there is already an AUR package for these fonts:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ttf- … -font-git/

However, more directly relevant is the fact that this is not a monospace font.  Proportional fonts will never work right in a terminal.  Chose a monospace font:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts#Monospaced

I prefer Terminus, but Insonsolata and Source Code Pro seem popular around here too.

@Trilby

I was able to install the Monospaced font Terminus per your suggestion. I appreciate the details you provided as it helped me understand the details of these fonts.

Thanks,
