Awful lag when using 4K resolution

I have an NVIDIA GTX 980 and one 4K (3840x2160) monitor. When using it in 1920x1080 mode, there are no problems, however when switching to the native resolution, the mouse starts lagging behind maybe 0.1 seconds, and opening any programs is very slow. This is not a problem while using Windows.

I'm using Cinnamon, but I also tried Plasma and the same issue is present there. I'm using nvidia's proprietary driver. I don't know if I'm using hardware acceleration or if it matters.

Please post your xorg log and the output of "glxinfo -l" (the latter is going to be quite some text, so maybe redirect it into a file and paste that)
