Systemctl suspend only works correctly in tty

Hello, complete noob here, don't really know what kind of information I should add with this. I've been tinkering with a lockscreen on my laptop for the past few couple of days and yesterday I managed to make i3lock start after the computer has suspended. But today systemctl suspend stopped working. The computer shuts down. Same thing happens if I close my lid. Also, the computer doesn't reboot with systemctl reboot. Instead it just shuts down.

However, if I go to another tty, after booting up, systemctl suspend and systemctl reboot work correctly. I was wondering what could be the fix for this problem? I can provide any information needed, thanks in advance.

Edit: I use the i3 window manager and X11

You might want to insert the details and especially whether the problem remains after reverting your tinker (or probably just outside your normal desktop session, eg. from "startx xterm")
