ASUS MB MB168B+ USB Monitor

After following the instructions here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=198262 , I got an ASUS MB168B+ to display properly in 1024 x 768 (4:3) but not 1366 x 768 (16:9), in which case the display looks like a bunch of diagonal streaks.  My laptop (ASUS Q324UA) screen is 1920 x 1080 (16:9).  I would greatly appreciate any commiseration or potential fixes.  Thanks!
